Private Peaceful
I have recently finished reading Private Peaceful and instantly fell in love with the story. I really enjoy stories about war and conflict. When I was studying poetry in GCSE Literature, one poem I was particularly drawn to was The Manhunt. I liked the ways it portrayed a soldier returning from war and his wife nurturing him. The sense of love, damage and concern really peaked my interest. I was also intrigued by the poems Hour which reiterated love in a precious way and Nettles, which also reiterated love but in a warm and hospitable family way. Private Peaceful was a story that mirrored all of what these poems presented.
Private Peaceful was written by Michael Morpurgo. It was written in a first person narrative. The key themes was known as: love, war, violence, cowardice, courage, envy, friendship and peace. Some ideas that I like is the chronological way it is written, it starts off with what happened before the war, then during, then after until the present day. I think it's a shrewd and intelligent way to write. I would link this novel with Saving Private Ryan relating it with all the courage, war and violence involved.
