A piece of writing that just happened
February 23, 1999, who would have known? Back in 1968, black power was celebrated as Martin Luther King failed in his slow and peaceful approach to enhance racial equality. The supreme court fought and fought until racial segregation was abolished in both North and South America in 1954. Still, white racists were stubborn; they kept segregation in public areas even though it was illegal. The KKK were lethal, ignorant and lynching any black man around street corners. It’s almost unforgiving to every black citizen of the United States, even now. White people are being discriminated by blacks now. How come? The hardships the black people faced in the past was agonising, revenge comes only natural to them and it’s completely understandable.
1970s, underground in South Bronx, New York city, some unknown music was formed. Reserved only by African Americans and it was called hip-hop. Who would have known that hip-hop was to dominate world music 20 years prior to that time? Tupac and Christopher Wallace, more commonly named B.I.G becoming the oxygen that fuelled the world of hip-hop in the 90’s. Feuds broke out between two friends, and now they both lie dead beneath the Earth, too early in their lives. Hip-hop is an entertaining aspect of culture, but at what cost?
Coming back to racist America, segregation and inequality. Hip-hop was initially black music. Until in 1981, enter first white rapper to sign to a record label, DJ Flash. He changed the game forever, and allowed other white rappers to play along. In 1972, there was born a white man who could be considered the greatest rapper of all time above the originators of the genre. Eminem, Slim Shady, Marshall Mathers, call him what you will, he’s the greatest competition that all fear to challenge. Is he the greatest there is? Most will disagree, as do I because Eminem was inspired by someone, and whoever inspired Eminem was greater than him. Tupac had the greatest influence on aspiring rappers and he also had consistency. Biggie was lyrically insane and his flow was smooth as rose petals. NWA said "F*ck You" to the police, and spoke their minds. But who one Earth had or has the whole package? Jay-Z, Eminem, Nas, Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, Big L, Easy-E, Ice cube, T.I, Rakim, 50 Cent, Immortal Technique? The list is utterly endless. Or is it perhaps the new recruits like Drake, Lil Wayne, J. Cole, Kanye West? Or is it perhaps the females? Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, Lil’ Kim, Lauryn Hill, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Trina? We might not settle on who’s the greatest, but how about the worst? Black-eyed peas, Vanilla Ice, Will Smith, or that Iggy bitch? Hands down, the worst rapper of all time has got to go to Iggy Azalea. Not just worst female rapper, but worst ever.
But do you all see what rap has turned into since it’s introduction back in the 80’s? Not just white rappers but females! Unfortunately, one female seems to be destroying rap, you all know where that bitch comes from down under. There are other female rappers who can destroy it too, like Nicki Minaj. Personally, I like her and I don’t know why because it is her type that I usually hate. But her songs are actually quite impressive barring Anaconda completely. Others seems to believe she is one of the worst. I cannot help but disagree, there’s a reason why her albums like Pink Friday and Pinkprint sold so well. I can’t fathom why Iggy Azalea is famous right now.
Black rappers. White rappers. Male and female rappers. It’s music for all. You’d be surprised how many elderly people listen to rap music. It’s uncanny really.
I’ll have to admit that the purpose behind this article is completely beyond me, there really isn’t one. The idea started off as a short story from the perspective of Stan from Eminem’s song Stan. I thought I could write an interesting story from his perspective. Then it just sounded more like an article of some sort, so I kept writing and couldn’t stop typing nonsense, so here is a piece of writing that just happened. (By the way, the significance of the day at the very beginning, February 1999, was slim shady lp release date, it seems unnecessary now, but I can’t be bothered to edit it)
