Fast & Furious 7
Fast & Furious? It was fast, but furious? Not as furious as the other movies. Mostly because Dwayne Johnson and his rock-hard pecs hardly shows up in this movie. The action scenes were being laid on thick. Perhaps because on-screen Paul Walker is all alive and well, but we, the audience, know the fatality he suffered. It makes us sad. "Sad" is not what the word "furious" is all about. Nonetheless, this most likely last installment of the franchise was a thrilling watch. I kept watching Bryan and prayed to God that his character at least stayed alive. And he did.
Fast & Furious 5 remains my favourite of them all, but I can't lie when I say that this one was something extraordinary. We are brought into the beauty that is Abu Dhabi where shit goes down. Shaw tracks them down and lets Dominic Touretto know that he has friends, not family. Dangerous friends that are willing to make a whole lot of mess. Dom not only wants to seek revenge for Shaw blowing up his cherished home but for the death Han Lue. A face that very much surprised me was Lucas Black returning for this movie as Sean Boswell alongside his girlfriend in Tokyo, when Dom came to collect Han for his funeral.
Nathalie Emmanuel was a great participant in this movie. She, of course, is well known for her role in Game of Thrones as Missandei. But it's nice to see her outside of the show and into a blockbuster film.
But the highlight of this movie for me was Paul Walker's tribute at the end. When the crew was on the beach watching him play with his son and significant other by the water's edge - that just made the whole ocean swim in my eyes. Watching his could-have-been life with his off-screen daughter, Meadow Walker. Then he had to have the one last ride with Dominic, but instead of racing each other, the drifted off to their separate paths. Walker to Heaven and Dom to wherever he chose to go. "We will always be brothers" he says.
IMDB: 7.4
