Tangled

Synopsis: Once a drop of the sun has fallen on Earth and grows a magic golden flower with the ability to heal the sick and injury. Mother Gothel sees the flower and hides it; then she finds that when she sings to the flower, she rejuvenates. Centuries pass and a kingdom is raised in the place where the flower is hidden. When the beloved Queen is about to have a baby, she gets sick and the only hope to save her is to find the magic flower. But Mother Gothel does not want to share the sun's gift and keeps the flower hidden. However, the spot is found and the magic of the golden flower heals the Queen. When the Queen's daughter Rapunzel is born, she receives the healing power from the flower and Gothel abducts her to use her magic hair to stay young. Gothel raises Rapunzel as a daughter, without cutting her hair and locks her in a height tower in an isolated area. She keeps Rapunzel far from other people, telling that it is for her own protection. The King and the Queen celebrates the anniversary of their beloved daughter releasing lanterns to the sky, and Rapunzel dreams on leaving the tower to see the floating lights from the outside world. When the thief, cheater and liar Flynn Rider steals the crown with two bandits, he is chased by the royal guard. However, he double-crosses the other thieves and flees, and climbs the tower to hide. However, Rapunzel hits him with a frying pan and hides his satchel with the crown. Rapunzel promises to return the satchel if Flynn takes her to see the lanterns. He accepts the deal and they start a dangerous journey of discoveries and love chased by the guards, the bandits and Mother Gothel.

Tangled is my favourite Disney movie (tied with Frozen, maybe Tangled's a bit better, still unsure) and I have seen this movie an unnatural amount of times. This review is beyond late as it did come out in 2010 and five years later, here I am writing a review for it. I first saw this movie in the summer of 2014, which is pretty late but I love it regardless.

Rapunzel is the modern idea of a teenager, where you'd ignore mother's orders and bring out a rebellious side in you. Though that rebellious side would usually begin to show when you're thirteen or fourteen, not when you're about to turn eighteen! Anyway, I just fell in love with her innocent and sweet dream to go and watch the floating lanterns gleam. It seems so odd for an eighteen year old, but given Rapunzel never left her tower, it would have been a dream anyone would have if they were left forever in a tower too. Rapunzel had her magical golden hair that allowed her to do anything and I loved her golden blonde hair until Eugene cut it! She had the most beautiful hair and on top of all that, she was a princess! Though Rapunzel was of course unaware of her being a princess for the majority of the film.

Eugene is attractive and yes I am aware of the fact that he is a cartoon. It is just that Disney draw these animated characters really sexy so it isn't my fault and I am sure I' not the only one. Rapunzel has that uncommon beauty as well and if I were a guy, I'd totally be in love with her. It is so rare to know that a princess would befriend and fall in love with a wanted criminal which I think is very clever in terms of originality. Then again, Rapunzel didn't know she was a princess when she began to like Eugene. But Rapunzel's such a nice young woman that she'd befriend Eugene regardless if she knew that she was a princess or not. My favourite scene with Eugene was when the Kingdom got involved in that dance and he got to spend more time with Rapunzel. Drawing the royal symbol on the ground with chalk, reading in the library; stealing cupcakes and hiding from the guards,

Mother Gothel was a very unusual villain in this story because she seemed to treat Rapunzel well barring the fact that she made her stay in that tower. Rapunzel didn't seem to mind until seem wanted to see the lanterns. Mother Gothel made sure that Rapunzel's imprisonment was hospitable, so hospitable that Rapunzel was unaware she was being locked in a tower. It was her home and Mother Gothel made that tower into a house. She allowed Rapunzel to do anything except to leave the tower. She showed the affection a mother would give to a daughter but in the end she only used Rapunzel for her hair.

I would recommend this film to anyone as always, probably not grown men. I still really like this movie after five years of its release but I did only start watching it 5 months ago. But since the first time, I watched it a dozen times more and I still love it!

IMDB: 7.8
